I am wanting to advance to wedding cakes and would like to know, when a cake is to have fresh flowers, do you have the florist deliver the flowers to you to place on the cake or do you meet them at the site of the wedding and place them on the cake then? How do you get experience in arranging the flowers on a cake? Are there any books that teach you how to do that?

When I have done cakes in the past, I find that when a florist is being used, it is easier to have them meet you at the site and to have them do the arranging... but I have done the flowers myself and have like the way that they turned out better, just because I knew what I wanted it to look like icon_smile.gif
I am pretty sure that places like Micheals and most craft stores have some sort of floral arranging class that you can take, I also think that some flower shops hold classes on it as well. Once you learn how to do basic arranging, it is easy to convert it to cake decorating- good luck!

Thanks Heather! I will check out the local florists for classes and Michaels, too

It's a good idea to actually work with the florist as far as getting the flowers goes. That way you can get the flowers actually being used in the wedding and be consistant with the decor.
