If you used this and wrote something like Good Luck or some such thing I believe I would be quite impressed.

What about getting it printed on an edible image? icon_rolleyes.gif

How about a stacked cake with the building going on the side as the "front" of the cake and make some fondant accents to go with the theme around the cake???

Could you do it by doing a frozen buttercream transfer? Would it be mutilating the image if you kept everything in the center of the circle out and wrote Congratulations in there instead?

That would be a good idea Sunny. I just can't think of anything myself right now. I have gone through the gallery but didn't find anything.

Does anyone have any more ideas?

Perhaps have a look at their website in case you see something else that sparks an idea. I thought the logo as an edible image idea was a good one and have a separate banner saying 'congratulations', etc.

Or what about using the modern MIT logo -repeating the logo as a design motif around the sides of your cake. Looks like it would be relatively easy to do and probably quite effective.

I know you didn't ask me sunflowerfreak but the logo looks so simple and I think Glorioustwelfth has a great idea. I have also seen your gallery sunflower and you do great work. I think no matter what the difficulty is you have more than enough skill and talent to do just about anything you dream up. Anyway, here's the logo and some other things from their site.

Thanks Sunny that's so nice of you to say. I did see their logo. I am just wondering how I would incorporate it into a cake. Any ideas would be great.

I like the idea of the new logo. Very nice. The graphics are cool and would look great on a cake.

What if you put that graphic on a car, and wrote Congratulations, or Heading off to MIT, or something like that......... if you wanted to go the cute route.................

Hi there! I looked online and under images, they have an interesting logo for the MIT sports....picture of some type of cat with MIT Engineers?

I think the first logo would be the best! You could do a large circle cake and then torte another one to have the first cake sit on so the circle tilts towards it's audience and then have the logo on top. Personally, I would cover it in fondant or buttercream and then paint the logo on with liquid food coloring!

Best of luck to you!

I love the idea of the logo. I did a cake last week for an ordination. They gave me an image from the church...it is also the logo on the church programs. I enlarged the picture, traced it onto stencil paper (the thick, sturdy stuff) and then cut them out for templates. I colored fondant to match the picture and cut the pieces out of fondant. It turned out so well, and I got amazing feedback. Something like that could really work for this cake. Go take a look in my pictures and see if that helps. Good Luck!!

ok...how's about this:

sheet cakes cut and stacked (or a series of long loaf pan cakes)

then make the top like a game board
("Welcome back to the academic rat race." or some other cute saying)

create different game places (a few suggested on sketch)

(could add others like -- lose 20 points: overslept and missed class --or-- is it May yet? :whine: --or-- spend Christmas break writing a business plan)

last one is gold -- could have a grad hat and diploma on it or even be a 3-D rendition of a diploma.

HTH

(and calling EVERYONE else to add game spot ideas!)

TerryJo that cake is amazing. It's the angel blowing the horn right? I love it.

Doug-You always come up with some good ideas and even diagrams.

I was thinking maybe something simpler. Like a stack of books having funny titles and authored by him. I still have a little time to think about it. I am just going to be busy that same week with 2 shower cakes, 7 dozen decorated cookies, 5 dozen petit fours and this cake, due all at the same time. It will be a challenge but fun.

sunflower..

Just to let you know for the future. There is a projector device you can purchase that will project an image on top of a cake, then you can just trace the images. I don't know exactly where you can purchase it, but someone in my art association (go figure) has one and has offered it to me. I will have to ask him where he got it. Next association meeting isn't until Monday though.

Best of luck to you. I would still do that very first image. From my pictures, you will see that you can successfully paint on cakes, just work with really small brushes and take you time!
