hey how about making a stacked cake, frosted with buttercream, light brown sugar packed around it .... sugar cones frosted with buttercream with brown sugar for the towers ... maybe on a cake board with piping gel tinted blue for water .... just some random thoughts...

I just made a sand castle cake for my daughter's 7th birthday. I did mine by using a round 10 inch cake, which I iced in blue, and I had sea weed and little fish all over the cake. The sand castle was made with a large cupcake and ice cream cones, which I iced and then rolled in a mixture of graham wafer crumbs and brown and white sugar to resemble sand. If you can find candies that look like sea shells, you can use them to decorate the sand castle. The castle was 'built' on top of the round cake, and I sprinkled some 'sand' all around it. Sorry, no pictures, but the kids seemed impressed. Hope this is of some help.

Hi,

I love this site too....so many really friendly and creative people.

Check out the pictures of castels in the galleries. I would just decide on or creat the shape of your castle apply your frosting choice. And then cover it in raw suger, or gramcracker crumbs, or even a mixture of the two. Hand mold little children's beach toys, shells , and beach towels from fondant. And stick them around the castle.

I think "Womans Day" magizine had just come out with a cake with a beach them on the cover?

What ever you come up with it will be great!

Hope I gave you some ideas to help you out icon_smile.gif.

God Provides,
Crista

I made a castle cake for my nephew a few years ago. I found directions online somewhere that I based it off of. I used a clay pot to bake the rounded cake in. Iced ice cream cones with buttercream. And coated the hole cake with brown sugar after icing in a tan buttercream. This was before I knew about shell molds so I used real shells.

Depending on how many people you need the cake for, Williams Sonoma has a really cute pan that you could do alone as well as on a sheet cake. Here's the link, so you can see what it looks like...

I have that cake lifter and I love it! Dad got it for me for Christmas and it's awesome...especially for those cakes that you can't really get your fingers under. It's a little pricey but I highly recommend it.
