Hello fellow CakeCentral members.
I am trying to decide if I should offer this cake special on my website. I want to provide cake photos of cake slices, so that my customers have a visual of what their cake will look like on the inside and see what options they have available to them. Therefore, I have 6 cakes I want to make, but of course, I don't want to eat them all. So, I want to offer these cakes to people who come to my website, as a way for them to sample my cakes at a special offer price.
I am looking to make two- 4 layer 8" rounds, two- 2 layer 8" rounds, and to resemble my sheet cakes, a 1 layer 8" square and a 2 layer 8" square. Just for simplicity sake, I am offering these for $8 each (reasonable for my area and what I charge). Some will have filling, some enhanced (which I charge extra for). I just didn't want a whole bunch of different prices.
I will offer this only on my website and will only accept e-mail orders, as I don't think it would be fair to have many available contact options for placing the order. I will not let any of my customers or friends know of the deal verbally. I also will be cutting out a slice, for the photo. I personally would like to sample these slices, as I am still trying out my combinations. Is it wrong to offer these cakes with a slice missing, or should I just offer them the whole cake and the cake slice that goes with the cake.
Any input you have on whether I should do this or not, would be greatly appreciated. Do you think I would have people interested? Would you buy a cake like this? Thanks CC.
I probably wouldn't want a cake that has already been cut , but why don't you make a whole bunch of cute mini-cakes instead....offer them at a minimal price, that way they can taste one or two or three, if they'd like. You can freeze the leftovers, wrapped tightly, and you will always have them on hand for anyone interested. Does your website get that much local traffic?
ITA! I live in a small, small town in NC and we have a huge festival every year the last Sat. in Oct. and I am planning to put up a booth and sell my cakes. However, most people who go to craft festivals do not want to walk around carrying a big cake, so I am planning on making a bunch of mini cakes and selling them for like $3.00 each. Then, maybe, do a few large specialty cakes (german choc, thin layer, etc) and sell them by the slice. I am using left over cake mix whenever I have some and making up the mini cakes now and freezing them. Anyways, what I'm getting at is that it's sooo much easier to have people to sample your cakes and get the pics when you do mini cakes. You don't waste the cake that way. JMO.
