Do You Think This Would Work - Crate Of Apples Cupcakes?

I need to make a going away cake for a teacher. They would like to have cupcakes for the class and have a small cake for the teacher to take home. I love the idea of the cupcake bouquets in the flower pots but was wondering if it would work to decorate the cupcake tops like the top of an apple and stick them in a crate-type container with the "grass" around them? I'm a little worried that it won't be as effective because the apples are usually all red. Maybe if I could find red cupcake liners - not enough time for that though. Any other suggestions? I don't have an airbrush, but maybe I could use the stuff in a can to spray the liner and cupcake top?

I have an idea for you...

For Mother's day, I did the cupcake bouquets but did not want to use the styrofoam balls. Instead I filled my pots with regular green flat foam blocks which I cut and pushed in to have a flat surface. I then covered them with green tissue paper. I pushed them in far enough so that when I placed my cupcakes in the tops were flushed with the edges of the pot. You could not see the baking cups, only the "roses". I think the effect was prettier because they actually looked like flowers in a pot.

I suppose if you do the same in a crate with your apples it will have the same effect... besides you won't have to worry about placing the on those pesky toothpicks =)

Good luck with your apples!

That would work! Then I wouldn't have to be so concerned as to whether they will survive the drive there either! I need to have 18 cupcakes so I would just have to make sure that they all fit in one or use a couple different ones.

Thanks!
