I want to do a cake that has metal embellishments and I don't have any luster dust. Is there anything else I can use to create that effect? Any non-toxic substance I can use from the art supply section?

Any help would be greatly apprectiated!!
Thank you
Angie

not that i know of. i know people have used just grated chalk for petal dusts but i don't think they make it in any sort of metallic colors. if the store isn't far away, maybe go look, and look for items marked "non-toxic" then i don't know how the cake is, but could you put a piece of waxed paper between the embellishment and the cake just to be safe.

Man this is a toughy,
The only thing I can think of is to use food grade gold or silver leaf. You know the kind they have in the bottle of "Goldschlager". Or, I just had an idea, hmmm, don't know if it's edible but figure it has to be non-toxic as you put it on your face. but how about eye-shadow? Will have to do some research on that one.

The cake will be covered in fondant...and everyone always peels it off, so I'm not worried about anyone eating the decorations. It's a drum cake and I need to figure out how to color the metal clamps!

Thanks

could you use foil for the clamps? don't know how it would work, just a thought if you're in a pinch
