A friend wants me to make a 40th birthday cake for her husband. I was thinking of doing the numbers out of color flow to stick upright in the top of the cake (which I have never done) Anyway couple of questions- do you then glue the numbers to sucker sticks with color flow? Also, what would be the best method to make them sparkle? I thought of using some of the edible glitter to put on top of the color flow before it dries-or I read where someone painted on piping gel then sprinkled glitter on. I havent used piping gel before either, does it dry hard? Thanks!

I don't have an answer to your question at all, but thought I could bump ya to see if anyone else does. I don't even know exactly what color flow is! I have an idea, but that's about it. But I also wanted to say your cakes are really beautiful. I love the babyshower cake! How do you do that rope border? Your basketweave is perfect too! I'm a novice as well, but not nearly as talented as you!!

Thanks Heiser73-
Color Flow is like royal icing, but has the color flow powder mixed into it (it makes it harder and more shiny than plain royal icing) Anyway you can outline something with full strength color flow then fill it in with really thin color flow (like the baby face in my shower cake) I just replied to someone else about how to do the rope border that you could check out, but it is probably easier to see a picture from wilton course 2 or maybe on their website. Thanks for your compliments

If you look at the tilted cake in my photos the butterflies are color flow. I used some of the gold shimmer dust from Wilton. I did one with the white and you couldn't see it, the wings just shined when the light hit them right, it was really cool, but couldnt' get a decent picture to show it.

I applied the shimmer dust with Vodka, any clear alcohol will work, or lemon Extract. You need something that will dry fairly fast (at least i think it works better) Paint on your liquid, sprinkle on the dust, shake off any excess and you're good to go!

I would suggest playing around with it to make sure you get the look you are looking for.

Other suggestions would be petal dust or luster dust. Not quite sure what your definition of "sparkle" is =)

Where do you buy "color flow"? And is it easy to work with? I really want to try it now!

You can by color flow mix at any of the hobby stores, Michaels, Hobby Lobby, JoAnn. I am sure also from some of these sites. They have it near where you would find the meringue powder that sort of thing. Yes, it is easy, but I think it probably takes some practice, my first thing turned out pretty ugly!
