I just did my first cake this weekend with the bendy wires coming out the top. I had the worst time trying to get them to do what I wanted. I don't know if my wire was too stiff or what. I like how the cake turned out, but I still didn't get it to look how I wanted. Does anyone have any tips or advice?

I think your cake looks awesome!!!!! Great colors!!!

By the look of your wire, it might have been a little too thick of a gauge. What was the look you were after?? More bend in the wire?? What did you make the balls out of on the wire ends??

Still, the cake is really great!!!

Thank you! Yes, I think I wanted a more natural bend in the wires. The balls on the end are just balls made out of fondant. I stuck them on the wires and let them dry in a styrofoam block over night.

I think that turned out great! thumbs_up.gif I guess if you you went with a thinner gauge wire, you would just have to make sure that it is still strong enough to hold the fondant balls--you don't want them to completetly flop over. I'm still trying to figure out the whole wire thing too.

Great cake and very pretty colors! I think the bend is just perfect, I too struggle with getting the right gauge wire...I guess it depends on the weight of the piece of fondant.

I think your cake is soooo great! Looks perfect to me!

I am curious as to what you made the numbers out of?

Thanks for your replies. The wire is just floral wire from walmart. The numbers are made out of and eduble image on gumpaste.

I saw something a couple of days ago, from Jackie I think, about a change in editing - the edit button will only be available for four hours from the original time of posting, so if you need to edit, that's how much time you have to do it.

I can't remember which forum it was in, because I clicked on it while it was on the home page, but I'm pretty sure that was the gist of the message.

hth!
