How far in advance do you normal have a wedding cake set up before the wedding? Also if it is going to be outside how far before the wedding do you set it up. i live in Kansas and the weather is suppose to be around 80 degrees. I just found out today that they are thinking about setting it up outside. The wedding is at 1:00 and didn't know if they do decide to have it outside how far before the wedding should I have the cake set up??? Sorry for rambling!!!!! Trying to type with a two year old isn't easy at times!! icon_smile.gif

Thanks,
~Heather

What type of filling and icing? I did a cake in the summer here in Indy and had to set it up shortly before the wedding. Heat and sun can be very hard on your cake. Inside you can set up hours ahead unless it's a whipped cream or cream cheese. Hope this helps.

I still can't figure out why anyone would want their cake outdoors. I keep thinking bugs, dust,, dirt etc.

You don't live very far from me, I drive through Holton on my way to Topeka at least once a month to visit my daughter and son-in -law.

If it ends up being windy outside, I wouldn't start setting it up until noon or 12:30 (depending on how fast you are with set-up). Are they going to have a tent/canopy shelter, or is it going to sit on a table unprotected from the sun and wind?

I don't think the humidity will be a problem, it sounds like the weather is going to be perfect (except for the breeze).

GL, hopefully they will change their minds and have the cake set up indoors. Then you can set up hours before.

Yeah, I know me too. They live out in the country and I can just see everytime someone drive by on the dirt road all the dust collecting to my cake!! icon_smile.gif They said they are going to try to get a tent.

Set up shouldn't take too long other than putting the top tier on. But this is my first wedding and how long I think it should take and how long it really takes I'm afraid are two different things!! icon_smile.gificon_smile.gif

Thanks!!!!!
