How do you frost the entire cake and remember where the decorations are to be placed? I did one last night and the indentations were hard enough to see. I frosted the sides but if I were to frost the top, I would be lost.

Thanks

I think you might be expected to save the paper insert in the pan and use it as a guideline. ... But, that is exactly why I don't use them! I just draw characters on sheetcakes! Who needs all those pans, how many times would you use each character?

When I do them I normally just star tip the top.
If you don't have the insert you can use the pan as a reference if there isn't enough contrast.

One more thing ... the character pans only serve about 12.

When I use my Wilton character pans, I don't crumb coat the top of the cake. I start by outlining all the details, and then fill in with a tip (usually a star). If you are having trouble seeing the indents, just keep the pan nearby as a handy guide, or keep the insert (although I've had to order many off ebay that didn't have inserts). Jodie
