put edible images on the side of a cake? I am doing a grad cake this week and it is going to be 3 or 4 tiers stacked. Well, the customer wants it to be "pretty", "wedding cake style" in the school colors, but also wants me to somehow tie figure skatoing into it. So I was thinking on one layer I could put pictures of the grad at different ages from figure skating. What do you all think? Any other ideas of how to tie it in? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Yes, it can be done. I have done edible images on the sides of a cake. I made small images and cut them out and put them on the sides. I have one in my photos. I did find out after that I should have trimmed the picture all the way to the edge or put a boarder around the pictures (but didn't have room for a boarder.)

I've seen cakes where the top of it is a frozen lake with skaters . . . (whimsical bakehouse did a N.Y. themed cake with a top like that) couldn't you do the same thing either making it a lake or a rink? You could have a miniature of the grad (whether made from fondant or piped from royal icing or melted chocolate) and she could be "etching" the words, "Class of 2006" much like a skater would etch a figure 8.

thumbs_up.gif You can put edible images on any part of a frosted or fondant covered cake. Here's another one I did. The pouches are edible images.
