i had a family request one for thier sons birthday next saturday. i have seen a ton of pics on here (though i can't seem to find the one i did last week that gave instructions for the wave). any suggestions on how to cut and stack cake to form the wave? i want it to be a sheet cake, one end sand with surf boards stuck in, the other end a huge curling wave coming up off the cake. any suggestions and pictures totally welcome!

Hmmm....not so much an expert on carving cake. The curling part of the wave stumps me. I guess this is just a bump, sorry!

I performed a search for "wave" & found a cake by "Jennz818", which is a sheet cake with about 1/2 beach & then a wave & trees... and a surfer figurine placed on the wave. One idea that came to mind, was to have the sheet cake - and then stack a wonder mold cake on the other end - carve it up to look like a wave? or, if that's not wide enough for your sheet cake, use another sheet cake, cut it in 1/2 & stack it on top of itself (stick together with buttercream!), and then carve it into your shape! If you can't get it to curve-in as much as you want, remember that you can make the "tip of the wave" longer with icing.......... good luck, those are just my ideas! =)

it will be done friday... will post a pic, and a link in this thread so you can see it! I got the foam wave carved out last night (what a mess!)... since no one is eating it, how many days in advance can i frost it? and get it done and out of the way? butter cream, all crisco. without the danger of it cracking (drying) or sliding off the foam? thanks again for all your help you guys.

I haven't done the wave with styrofoam yet but I can imagine it would be really difficult to transfer a fully decorated on onto the cake. I would just wrap it wave in saranwrap and ice it when it is on the cake. That way you can make sure, that it is properly fixed to the cake.
Here is one that I made using a carved cake. I also iced it right on the cake, bc I did not want fingermarks all over the wave
