I went to my local cake decorating store the other day because I needed an edible image (don't have the printer to do that). The person working there gave me two options:
1) Print a non-toxic but not edible image that would look exactly like the picture I was trying to get printed
2) Print a real edible image. With this one the colors might not be exactly like the ones in the real picture (as it turned out the picture had an orangy overtone)
Is this normal? I've seen cakes here with edible images of characters such as Cinderella, Dora... that look exactly like those images, same colors. Does that mean they are non-toxic but also not meant for eating???
Thanks,
Inma
I have not idea why the colors wouldn't be the same. I have an edible image printer, and the color is usually dead on! Maybe they have a problem with their printer????

I have my printer set for manual control of colors because of reds. Depending on how mady reds are in the image, I have to play around with the controls for awhile to make them come out okay and not bright orange. It was nice of them to give an alternative, though--I have never heard of that first option.
Thanks you guys for the response! I'll ask them next time I go if there is something they can do to their printer to adjust the colors.
I used the image on a white chocolate frame that I thought they were going to eat so I went with the edible image instead of the other alternative. When they saw the frame they decided to not eat it and keep it as a keepsake. If I had known....
