Piping Gel Help Please

I'm trying to get that real water look. I know I have to use piping gel but do I get that look by mixing it with my icing or do I color the piping gel and put it over my icing?

First of all, let me say I've never made water before. I've read that you color the piping gel. Then, I believe you spread it over the icing.

What exactly do you mean? I used pipping gel for water. What I did is I tinted the gel w/blue and just pipped it were I formed the water and w/my finger I just spreaded around. Hope this helps.
