I just tried a batch of Toba Garrets fondant after seeing you guys rave about it. Iused glycerine and the texture seemed nice and soft. But when i rolled it out it clung a little to my vinyl mat. I used a little shortening on mat and rolling pin. It kind of stuck to pin too. When I went to cover dummy cake it tore. I tried using more powder sugar about 1/2 cup and still the same thing. I also had the problem with satin ice to which I had to use more sugar. Should I use powdersugar on my mat and pin? How can you tell whats the perfect consistency? I'm in florida and its getting humid, do you do something different in high humidity? I seemed to have better luck w/ mmf although it was so hard and tough to knead, my arms hurt for a whole week!

I am soo sorry to hear that you are having problems! It does sound like your weather is affecting your consistency of your fondant. Just yesterday I was having the same problems because it was hot then it rained and then it got cold! We were trying to make little animals and they just weren't working! anyway!

How much crisco are you using for the mat and the pin. You really do have to generously put it on. Get a plastic baggie and rub that stuff on good! That should help a little more!
Good luck! If that's not the answer I hope you find one!

i have also tired her recipe... i didn't like it at all... Michelle Foster's Delicious Fondant is excellent.... its tastes good and has great strech... failing that ( making fondant can be tedious sometimes.) Try mmf ( marchmellow fondant) its easier and cheaper to make... both of these recipes are listed in the recipe section of cc

I also have huge humidity problems. I discovered if I use corn starch instead of powdered sugar, to roll the fondant, I have far fewer problems. You give that a try. HTH

I only use a tiny bit of shortening cause i'm afraid of making it even softer. I wiil try more shortening or cornstarch instead. I want to be able to use this stuff before i go on to another recipe. Any body else have any ideas.....

I also had horrible luck with Toba's recipe, it tasted great, but tore like crazy, never had that many problems before.
