Please Help, Need Ruby Red

I am making an anniversary cake next weekend and have been trying to make ruby red icing for the roses. I have tried using the color chard which says mix red red and black, but it comes out like a drab burgundy color......I am making once whole BC recipe just for the roses....what am I doing wrong....please help...thanks

You might try sending a pm to ColorBoy. He is the Americolor rep that can answer questions for you.

If you don't have Americolors (and everyone should lol) maybe try adding less black. Like just the tip of a toothpick.

I just made a ruby red last night and followed the advice from the Board here and started with orange then added the red with a bit of burgundy. Hope this helps!

I do not understand why the color chart you are using would tell you to use black with red. The rubies I have seen are a vivid red. I would think that adding black to red would give you more of a garnet color. Can anyone explain this for me?
