Hi all! I was interested in learning gumpaste flowers. They are SO beautiful. Well, at the local cake decorating store, my wilton instructor is doing a 4 day course on the flowers. We use the wilton gumpaste kit. I bought the kit today. The problem is the class is $75 and i was just wondering if you all think it is worth it? I think $75 is a little steep as i am used to paying $12 or so for the wilton cake classes. So, do you think i could teach myself out of the book, or would it just be a lot better to learn from a 4 day course?

$75 is expensive for wilton, maybe, but it is cheap for a gumpaste class. They can be quite expensive. I'd suggest skipping wilton and getting a book by toba garret or by Scott Clark Woolley - I took 1 class with him and it was amazing. His book is very detailed. You would do REALLY well with his DVD, but that is quite expensive (but worth it, in my opinion). He is really quite talented.

If she's good then it's worth it... $75 is cheap for a four day class. I've paid 4x's that amount for gumpaste classes.

Have fun!!

Winjobit, are you in Canada? I teach beginning gumpaste at a Michaels; it's a four session course and the tuition is $25 just like the I, II, and III courses but the monthly tuition special promotions don't apply to it.
