A bride wants me to make her this cake. Im not sure if the bottom is a cake as well, it looks its covered in fabric? Also do you think the upright parcel on the side is a cake or a dummy?
The bottom does appear to be covered in ruffled fabric but you could do that look with fondant I am sure.
The box should be a dummy just to make sure you pull off your cake and it is less of a headache since it will be more stable.

The bottom looks like it is the cake stand/box covered in fabric. I have seen it done where people have used cake to do the box that is standing up, but I personally wouldn't do it. I'd be afraid it would collapse or something. I would just use a regular box and have them remove it before cutting the cake.
Save yourself the headache, and leave the small box cardboard...
Wouldn't it be nice if the MOB and MOG wrote some thoughts down(marriage, future,love,romance,advice...something sincere) and you placed them in the box for the couple???
That way you wouldn't doubt leaving the box cardboard, because it serves a function...just a thought.
...Or, you could have the Groom write something romantic as a keepsake, and a surprise for the bride?

Just so others know, that the base(fabric) is called a "puff base". Earlene Moore makes them and at the bottom I will have a link to her site so you can see em=) But I did find the link here on CC where squirrellycakes was kind enough to give us the directions=) I know that you(riana) are gonna make a cake out of it, but wanted to post this for the others who might be interested in it, and possibly you can get some ideas how to do it cake-wise=) HTH some, Jen
