Sorry, I couldn't find the thread on the size of 1/2 sheet cake. What is considered the normal 1/2 sheet cake? 12x18?
TIA

From a previous forum I found that a
2 - 12x16 or 11/15 is a full sheet
1 - 12/18 is a 3/4 sheet
1 - 12/16 or 11/15 is a 1/2 sheet
1 - 9/13 is a 1/4 sheet.

Hope this helps!

I have wondered this, too. I went to a bakery/cake supply store to get a box large enough for a half sheet cake (for some reason Michael's carries the boards, but no boxes icon_mad.gif) and they said their half sheets are 12x18in. That cake board and box were 14x20in. Their quarter sheet is a 9x13. I also measured their full sheet board and box that day and they were 20x27in. That would comfortably fit 2 half sheet cakes if they are 12x18in each.

That chart jsut doesn't make sense to me, because if a 9x13 is 1/4 sheet, to me a half sheet should be twice as much and a full sheet should be 4x as much.

I use 9x13 for a 1/4 sheet
2 of those (18x13 or 9x26)) is 1/2
3 of them (27x13 or 9x39) = 3/4
4 of them = 1 full sheet

noone seems to agree on this subject, as you will find various sizes posted.

just make sure your customer knows what size YOU mean when you say 1/2 sheet and you should be fine

Thanks for the quick response. I've got check my pan sizes. I know that I have a 9x13 and I think my next size is 12x18. In this area, I believe that a 12x18 is considered 1/2 sheet.

it is funny that this is such a topic for debate, isn't it? you'd think it would be standard.

jmt1414--I totally agree--it didn't make sense to me either. That's why I went to the bakery this week when I was making my first half sheet cake. I was planning on baking 2 9x13's and icing them together, but looking at the board and box, it would have been a real tight fit. I decided to call the customer and explained that I would be using a 12x18 pan instead so that it would fit better in the box--she was fine with that and I had an excuse to buy a new pan! It's only 1 inch different.....My other option was to bake the 2 9x13's, use a full sheet box and board and then not refrigerate 'cause my side-by-side fridge wouldn't fit that size.

oh, I'm not criticizing your decision - it makes total sense for practical reasons.

and grrrrrrr . . . I HATE my side-by-side. I didn't have a choice in the matter. I'm putting a second fridge in the garage JUST because of cakes nd party stuff. . . lol
