Today my cat, Mr. Mackey, broke his leg so badly ... destroyed ligaments and all!
He is at the vet now and is having his whole leg amputated tomorrow.
They take it from the hip because it's not good to leave a stub of any kind. I should be able to take him home Friday. He's 8 1/2 years old. They are giving him strong pain medication so he'll sleep most of the time.
My cat is an INDOOR cat! (and an 18 pounder too). He was meowing very loudly. Before that I had heard some rumbling ... but, honestly, I thought it was thunder! (We were having thunderstorms this afternoon and evening.) I went upstairs following his meows and he was under my unfinished jaccuzi. He got in there through the access holes to the pipes. I don't know if he caught his leg in between some pipes and tried to yank it free ... We are doing work in the attic; maybe he was exploring the attic and jumped down and landed wrong. I'll never know ... he can't tell! Cost: roughly $900.00. Whatever!
Poor thing! I'm so sorry to hear that. I hope he will recover well.

Just take care of him. He will bounce back. ![]()
Give him extra lovins ![]()
The worst part of a pet being sick is not being able to explain it to them.
I hear ya on that one!
I'll never know how the heck it happened. As I write this, he is in surgery. I have spoken to five people since yesterday who have 3-legged cats. I guess it's a common surgery. Today on my way home from work, I saw a 3-legged cat running (literally) around in his front yard! Still, it's going to be a tough recovery.
Poor thing. I would be devasted if something happened to my cats. My friends had a cat that fell from their balcony and had to have his leg amputated. He adjusted fine and would run on three legs like normal. So hopefully he'll adjust well. I hope you both feel better soon.
My cat Wilbur had to have his leg amputated after he got out one night and was hit by a car. it was amazing how he adapted to haveing only three legs. we would let him out in the back yard and even with three legs he would still bring me presents like birds and lizards. Most of the time I would forget that he had three legs. The vet bills sure do suck for this kind of surgery but it was well worth it he led a very happy life he died last year at eighteen.
Mr. Mackey came home from the vet yesterday. I took a picture in case you're curious. He is on a morphine patch. Still a little "relaxed" (hence his eyes aren't so bright in the picture). They told me to keep him in an enclosed room for a couple of days so fluids won't build up. When he does move, he seems pretty balanced!
Oh bless his heart. My stomach dropped when I saw the pic. Give him a kiss for me please ![]()
Bless his little furry heart! He's beautiful! And he lookslike he came through the surgery very well. I've dealt with a lot of sick and injured animals living at the ranch that I used to live at. He actually looks really good for what he's been through. The patch will keep him comfortable. Any concerns you have like picking him up and holding him, meds, or anything, just give your vets office a call; that's what they're there for. My Zeus just crawled into my lap as I'm typing this; He send his love to Mr. Mackey. We'll be praying for a speedy and uneventful recovery. You'll be surprised at how quickly he's going to adapt and start moving around. He'll be back to normal in no time. Give him lots of rubbins, kisses, and lovins. Give him a big kiss on his ears from me!
God Bless ![]()
