ok, i did my first batch of royal icing last night... did like 600 flowers. i could barely squeeze it out though... i felt like i needed da guvvener (Arnold) there to squeeze the danged piping bag! No kidding, i broke into a sweat, had to have a shower and my back and hand are killing me today.. but by golly i got em done! did i just not measure something right or is it supposed to be like squishy taffy? duh.
brilliant! i will try and thin it a bit more next time... and now i don't feel quite as dorky as i did. thanks!
It sounds like it is too thick. It doesn't mean you did anything wrong. Sometimes when you follow the recipe to the T it will be too thick, other times it will be too thin. The weather and humidity can affect the out come of it.
Add a little, such as a 1/4 of a teaspoon, of water at a time until it is an consistancy that is better to work with. Please add your water slowly, as a little does go a long way. You want the icing to be able to hold a peak, but it doesn't have to be hard to stir. ![]()
