ok I am doing my first fbct, 1st question, how long before cake is being served is it safe to put on cake? Can I put it on friday night or sat. morning for a cake not being served till dinner time saturday. My second question is I was going to use the ButterCream Icing for Frozen Transfers, is this frosting ok to frost the whole cake in or should I use a different type? Also should the cake be refridgerated with that kind of frosting?

an fbct can be treated like the rest of your frosting. so no more than two days ahead of time. the icing is very rich. i personally would not use it to frost the whole cake, but it's really personal prefrence. i believe it should be refridgerated.
good luck with your cake!

I use the same kind of frosting for my transfers as I do for the cake. I've never had any problems with it. I've made transfers and left them in the freezer for a few days before I actually got them on my cakes and they've been fine. I try and make the cakes 24 hours or more prior to the event they are for (usually try not to make them more than 48 hours prior just because people prefer fresher cake). After the initial condensation from defrosting, there is no problem with the image on the cake. It's just like the rest of the frosting on it. So if the cake requires refridgeration, it will not affect the transfer in anyway. I have a plethora of cakes in my photos done by this technique. Good luck!

i've done my transfer as much as 3 days ahead and as long as you keep it frozen it shouldnt be a problem. if you leave it out it will get soft again really quick and you will have a problem getting it onto the cake. it should go onto the cake as soon as you take it out of the freezer, anytime after its completely frozen its ok to put onto the cake. once its on the cake it doesnt really matter if it gets soft. if you make the transfer in an all crisco buttercream it would be ok to leave it out as long as the cake, filling & frosting does not need to be refrigerated. You can use the same frosting to frost your cake but if you use the buttercream with butter you will have to refrigerate. hope all that makes sense and helps.
