Ok, here's the question: What's the groom cake used for? Before I came to CC I've never heard of a groom cake. Maybe it's because no one asked for one around here. At my wedding we only had a traditional wedding cake, and the cake lady never suggested a groom's cake. So I wonder what is it used for, and normally what you do for the cake? I want to know so when a customer asks for one I'll know. It may be obvious to you all, but not for me, sorry....
thansk for the help!!!

My opinion is that a grooms cake is to reflect the grooms interest( like fishing hunting ect...) Some grooms cakes are just a sheet cake or a small teired cake to have a different flavor like chocolate or red velvet. Most of the time the customer will be specific on what the grooms cake it to look like and flavor....... I hope this helps
Ok thanks, but I have another question : why do they need another cake besides the wedding cake? Is it to feed only a few "selected" people, or just to offer two flavors? I thought a wedding was an union, so it equals one cake. Maybe it's the Quebec culture that doesn't do groom's cake, maybe I won't do any groom's cake, or maybe I'll have some orders soon. That's why I'm asking those questions. don't want to look dumb in front of a customer ![]()
thanks again, it helped alot

Here is some info on the history of the groom's cake:

I think now it's like kellieskakes said-the groom's interests and it also offers chocolate or red velvet cake which are not normally wedding cake flavors. Groom's cake is also far less servings-maybe 30-60 depending on the size of the wedding and the type of cake. My dh loves cigars so we had an amazing cake made that was a cigar decorated with a band that was his favorite brand. It was chocolate with cookies and cream filling.
Thank you so much dodibug. That explains everything. Now I understand!! I won't look dumb if someone asks for one!! But as I was reading this, I thought that's something that's not into the Quebec culture. That's why I didn't knew about it. But since lots of people from other countries are moving in my town, that could easily happen one day. So thanks again, both, that helps me lots and lots!!!!

You're welcome! I laugh when I look at some website of these high end bakeries in New York and they are talking about that they are excited to now offer groom's cakes. So it's not just you guys in Canada-they don't even do it in most parts of the US! And lots of people in the US have never heard of it either!
I think traditionally the "wedding cake" is considered the brides cake, so I guess that is why some people want a groom's cake-I think often it is just for fun.
