I want to try my hand at making roses, but there's no gumpaste in sight within a 200 mile radius (farming communities are wonderful! icon_lol.gif ) So I will be starting with tootsie rolls or starbursts. I don't have cutters yet.

Is there a petal teplate somewhere that I can cut the shapes from?

I just shape them wit hmy fingers. A petal shape isn't hard to do by hand. Just make it rounded on the top and a little flatter on the bottom.

When I make candy clay roses I do not use cutters like I do for gumpaste... I make a cone roll a ball and squish out a petal and if my base gets too big as I work I squish some off and use it as a petal...

playdough is also good to practice the technique

In addition to tootsie rolls and starburst candy, you can also make roses from Candy Clay and Bubble Gum. icon_smile.gif

Here's an everything BUT b/c Rose thread:
