You answered your own question! icon_lol.gif If your telling your customers your price and they are in disbelief then YOU KNOW it should be more!!! thumbs_up.gif

When I first thought of doing decorating I talked to a very good friend of mine and he told me that you have to sell yourself.....make people want your cakes!! I think this all comes from confidence. I lack that at times but he told me that I need to fake it icon_razz.gif If people are surprised that you don't charge more....maybe it's time thumbs_up.gificon_rolleyes.gifthumbs_up.gif

Well if that is their reaction, maybe your cakes are good enough to charge more. We are always our own worst critic and what you see as as a so-so cake other's may see it as wonderful (hey, they can't do it). I say go ahead and up your price even if it is just to $2.25 per slice. Good luck!

Hey, that's your in!!!! I normally start my cakes at $2.50/serving for an all bc decorated cake and start at $3.25/serving for fondant cakes. I live on Long Island so I am kind of near to you. Believe it or not with all the bakeries out there people nowadays are looking for something a little more unique and creative. Don't be afraid to bump up your pricing. I just started and priced my cakes at $2.00/slice and today I actually bumped it up to 3.00/slice for my 3D cakes. If people don't want a unique cake they can go to the store and get a sheet cake with a rose plopped on it. I do have a question also--How much extra do you charge for fondant babies and mermaids etc..? they're in my photos.
Thanks

I agree with everyone, if people are saying "that's all??!" then you should def. be charging more! Maybe add 50¢ per serving and see what people say. If they're still acting like it's cheap, raise the prices a little more!

I've been working on pricing lists, and DH keeps reminding me "if EVERYONE orders from you, the price is too low".

Don't underestimate your talent!

Its funny how you come on these boards to ask a question and you find someone else had the same thought....

I live in Michigan.. so any michigan bakers wanna tell me what they charge per slice and what is included in that price??

TIA!

thanks for all the input thumbs_up.gif a set price per slice is just for cake, icing and decoration correct(thats how I do it),but extra charges apply for chocolate shells/decor/painting,fondant and gumpaste decorations.it really becomes tricky if you want all the orders you can get but not push people away with your prices icon_rolleyes.gif
