I have a baby shower cake that is going to have angels on it and I usually use fondant to make them. I was wondering if gumpaste is better to work with. I've never used it before and I'm not sure if it is easy to use. I also have a Cinderella slipper to make and I think I have to use the gumpaste. Is using gumpaste alot different then using fondant to sculpt?

I would use a mixture of the two. It's hard to get good figurines with just fondant. They tend to sag because it takes too long to dry. You can't really sculpt well with just gumpaste, it tends to dry on the outside really quickly and then looks crackily as the rest settles and dries inside, in my experience.
I always use both. I alter the ratio depending on what I'm making.

Gum paste dries extremely fast and that's the major difference between the two products. I use a 50/50 of Fondant and Gum Paste also for most things I am making.

To Cakester: If you need an idea for a baby shower cake take a look at the Baby Rattle Cake I made for my daughter last week. I thought this would be great on top of a sheet cake in the future.

I think that would look great on top of a sheet cake. I always have issues with sheet cakes because I feel they look so generic a lot of the time. This would def. change that.
