I made some gumpaste palm trees, let them dry for a few days then painted them with Americolors and they looked great. They stayed looking great for a several hours but after 20 mins on the cake the colors all ran off! I have never had this happen before. Luckily the cake was cut by then so I quickly discarded the evidence (no pic, sorry) .
I usually use fondant, but this was decorated in BC. It was not too hot either. Has anyone else had this happen?
Diane.
I have never painted with americolor afterwards. I have, however, painted with luster dust and lemon extract though. I usually tint the gum paste/fondant, make my flowers or figures, dry a little bit then dust with luster dust, or paint. Sorry if i didn't help with your question...but now you can get a BUMP!
I found out what happened!
A coworker decided it would be great to keep the trees so took them out of the cake to wash them! She placed them under running water and got color all over her hands! She then panicked and put them back in the cake!!
All I saw was my palm trees looking like they had been left in the rain! They were still in the same place on the cake as they were 10 mins earlier when I left the room!
Of course, my other coworkers knew it was sugar and have been teasing her relentlessly since!
Oh well, good job I didn't want them anyway!
LOL
Diane
