Hi everyone,

I added colored sprinkles to royal icing and I found that the color ran.

Is this normal or did I use the wrong kind of sprinkles (the ones that I had were just from the grocery store)?

I think that they looked pretty crappy and wouldn't want to use them again if they generally run.

Any ideas?

I have found the Wilton ones bleed/run, especially the sugar sprinkles. I have success with other brands like CK.

I use CK brand sprinkles on my holiday cookies and never had a problem with them bleeding. thumbs_up.gif

Thanks all, I just came back from Chicago and I came back with a big bag from CK. Relative to what I pay here they were a good price. Next time I want to use sprinkles I will give them a try.

I'm confused! Did you add the sprinkles to the icing and then pipe or pour it on? OR did you ice the cookie and then sprinkle the RI? I am sorry but I am not seeing this! icon_lol.gif

You ice the cookie and add sprinkles while the RI is still wet icon_biggrin.gif

Yes, don't mix in the sprinkles with the icing. Ice your cookie, and then add the sprinkles on top while the RI is still wet. Or, if you're using RBC and you want sprinkles, after you get your icing on the cookie, go over the top lightly with a brush w/ corn syrup, and then shake the sprinkles on top of that.
