I am trying to make the MMF recipe from this website, and it calls for 15 oz of mini marshmallows, and 6 cups of confectioners sugar! This doesn't seem right ratios to me?? Am I wrong? I will post the link to the recipe. Please let me know if this is correct (15 oz equals 2 cups).

this is so weird. I tried the recipe while waiting for a response... and I put 2 cups (16 oz) of marshmallows.... 2 tbsp water, 2 tbsp lemon juice, 2 tbsp corn syrup, 2 tbsp vanilla extract, 1/2 tsp salt and about 2/3 cup cocoa. After that... you're supposed to add all 5 or 6 cups of icing sugar a cup at a time and stir in... but it was already stiffening and hard to stir after the cocoa went in!!!!! I added just 1 cup of icing sugar and kneaded it on the table and it was just enough to make it soft, but pliable (although it looks almost too dry and tears like cookie dough). So I just left it with 1 cup of icing sugar in it and coated it with crisco and wrapped it and put it in the fridge!!! I must have done SOMETHING wrong for it to only take 1 cup of icing sugar.
What happened?? Anyone used this recipe before??

I believe the marshmallows are 15 oz. by WEIGHT. So you're looking for nearly a pound of marshmallows. I just checked a bag of regular marshmallows I have in my cabinet and it's 9 oz.

That's why the sugar didn't match up right ... you didn't have enough marshmallows at all.

Marshmallows are by weight. Remember if it is a pourable substance (water, milk, molasses) it is in MEASURED ounces. If it is not a pourable substance (flour, chocolate chips, marshmallows) it is in WEIGHED ounces.
A friend of mine also made that mistake, several times because she thought she was doing something wrong and it was horrible chunky dried out mmf from waaaaaaayyyyy to much icing sugar.

I have made MMF from the recipe on this website, and I have used an entire bag (16 oz) of marshmallows and I haven't had any problems. LittleLinda is correct ~ the 15 oz. is by weight. The 2 cups that you are thinking of is for liquid measurements ~ 8 oz. of liquid per cup. Not the same with marshmallows.

Just use a 16 oz. bag and you will be just fine!

That is the MMF recipe I use all the time--Love it! I fill a large pampered chef glass bowl full of mini marshmallows. that's about 1 1/2 10 oz bags of marshmallows. I have never had a problem making the fondant. Don't give up--it's really a great recipe. icon_smile.gif

my problem is that the bag of marshmallows I have says "500 grams"!!! LOLOL... apparently we've all figured out that I'm no good at this 'conversion' stuff...sooo.... how many oz or cups is a 500 gram bag of marshmallows???
LOLOLOL... I can't believe this. I have a conversion program on my computer, but you can choose either mass or volume, and the mass doesn't convert from grams to ml, or cups, or oz. and you can't go from mass TO volume. Help a dumb girl out!! icon_redface.gif

I found a converter on line. Answer: 15 oz = 425.242 g

Sorry, I didn't notice you were from Canada.
