I saw this cake in the gallery and loved the roses. Does anyone know how these "circle roses" are made. Are they just cut-out fondant circles? All the same size? It looks like 3? These are just buds, can you make fuller roses? Thanks!

I saw she said she learned from Duff. I tried to find a link to a tutorial; but couldn't find one. Maybe somebody else knows how.

I imagine they are all the same size circles. When I made tootsie roll roses, I used equal size pieces ... no circle cookie cutter, just flatten with finger and thumb, it's sort of a circle.

Somewhere within these forums I explained it.

I just copied the thread.

I take a mini tootsie roll and microwave it about 15 seconds. I use a paring knife and slice it lengthwise. Then I cut the length into five equal pieces, so now (because I split it lengthwise) I have ten pieces. I flatten 9 pieces between my finger and thumb into basically circles. I take the last piece and form a tiny cone. I take one of the flat pieces and elongate it a little and wrap it around the tip of the cone for the center. Then I put three petals around that and finally five petals around that. Voila!

These do take a lot longer than making buttercream roses; but at least there is no drying out time.

Those roses in that thread look like the ribbon roses. Take some fondant and cut in a strip about 1 1/2 inches wide and 6-8 inches long and start rolling, pinching at one end and Voila, a rose! icon_biggrin.gif

Here it is, part of the "ace of cakes, did you watched???" thread.

This is my first time posting. My name is Mary, and I am one of "The Girls" on the show. Anyways, I just wanted to help clarify on how to make the roses, of "fun roses" as we like to call them.
1. Make a pretty fondant color
2. Cut out 3 circles
3. Wet the edges of the circles and place them in a line, slightly overlapping.
4. With your paintbrush, run a water line down the line of circles.
5. Take the bottom circle and start rolling towards the front of the line.
6. Pinch the middle of the roll and slightly twist the two halves apart, and you end up with two roses.

I have also made very small ones, replicas of ribbon roses, and you do the same thing, but just roll out the fondant much thinner.

They look like ribbon roses. Maybe a bit different, but if that is the case, they are really easy to make! They can be made and placed on a cae right away. Just roll out a desired amount of fondant, like 7 inches long or so, by 4 inches wide. Fold in half, and just gently roll and shape a little. I think I made a few of them in my castle cake in my photos!

Thanks so much! I knew there had to be a thread about how to do it somewhere, but I couldn't find it! I can't wait to try it, I love new, easy flowers. Unfortunately, out of fondant. But that means I get to try a new recipe for fondant....for maybe being out is a good thing.

I just replied to your PM, I apologize it took me so long to get back to you! The pp are correct, they are the roses that Duff showed the brownie troops how to do, and they are so easy and pretty to make! Rather than making them out of a long piece of fondant or gumpaste, they are made from individual circles. I haven't tried making fuller roses, but I bet if you used different sized circles and rolled them thinner, it would work!
