When making a wedding cake, how many layer do put in each tier and are they 2 or 3" deep. I've noticed that I can't get all the decorations on my cakes that Wilton puts on theirs. They must have 3 2" layers or 2 3"layers. Clueless?

I think most people opt to do 2 layers 3" deep each......but it all depends on the look you're going for.

The ones I have done have been a minimum of 6" in total hieght. Anything less than that looks funny to me. Some people do 2 - 3" layers and torte them so you have a total of 4 layers. Some do 3 - 2" layers. With the filling either one of those configurations will get you to 6" or more in height.

I personally make 2-2" layers and tort them. Once it's filled and assembled, the tiers usually end up around 5" tall.

Of course, everybody has their own way they like things!

Remember too, that the cakes in the Wilton books are dummies, not real cake - that's why they look so perfect!!!!
