I have an order for a cake with a fresh white lily on the top. I have never added fresh flowers with out a water pick (but they were inbetween layers, not on the top where the pick could be seen) Do I need to use a pick? Can I just lay it on the top? Will the water already in the stem get on my cake? Can you tell I have a 1000 questions? icon_biggrin.gif Any ideas would be great... Thanks Donna

I cannot answer from decorating experience....I will leave that to those who have done so....I have only used gerbera daisies on cakes and they were wonderful without water!!

But I was going to pass along that my personal wedding cake was made with fresh flowers and the cake decorator did not use water pics...she just arranged them right on top of the cake and there were no problems and it was beautiful!!! And she placed them on a couple of hours before the wedding!

But I will leave those with more experience to give advice icon_smile.gif

I don't think you should lay any flowers directly on top of your cake. May be you can put a small piece of waxed paper between the cake and the flowers. I do suggest you use a water pick, because the flower may dry up very quickly, you can make the cake so it ends up taller than the pick and put in a little baby brath or leves to hide it, or even a small amount if icing to conceal the edge of water pick and then insert the flower.
