I am so excited, I just did my first paid cake order this weekend. My aunt called up and said that she would pay me 25 dollars to make her a cake for her church's cake walk. I could do whatever I wanted, just had to make it "fun". So the picture below is what I did. Does anyone know why my color flow bled the way it did on the giggling girl? My wilton instructor had no idea why it would do that. Thanks for any help.

thanks it is hard to see in the picture but the black ran and made it look like the red dressed girl had been playing in mud. It went okay with the theme, but I don't want it to happen again. =/

That is a very cute cake! I can't tell where it bled, but did you let the black dry totally before you filled it in?

maybe that is what happened.. I might not have let it dry long enough first. I will have to try letting it dry longer next time. Also I think I will try not thinning my runny color flow as much as I did.

I don't know why your color flow bled. The only color flow piece I ever did was for the Wilton course 2. I have seen some frozen butter cream transfers and those always look great. I haven't done those but I want to try it out soon. But I suppose fbct don't stand up like color flow, not really sure about that either. Sorry though not much help.

But I think your cake looks great! I love the clouds, very cute!

The same thing happened to me. I made a Thomas the Tank Engine Color Flow piece and it bled too. But days later. It looked fine for the first 2 or 3 days and then when I looked at it, all the black had started fading into the other colors. By the 5th day it was really bad and i was so frustrated i was going to throw it away. Then i got the idea to paint over it, so i mixed the icing colors with bright white and painted it with a paintbrush. It worked wonderfully; my piece was pretty large though. Later, i read somewhere that if you don't let it dry long enough that will happen. Previously the only color flow pieces i'd done were where the outline and the run-in were the same color. So all that being said, when i do color flow again, and i will because i think it's so cute, i will let the black dry a few days before i do the run-in. It shouldn't hurt.

That is exactly what happened with me. They were fine for two days and then by the fifth day they had a muddy look to them. At least I know I am not the only one who has had this happen.

the first time I did color flow mine bled too I did not let it dry well enough before filling in.. I now start mine a day earlier than I normally would and let it dry over night (the black that is) BTW I love the cake it is so cute!

Missyjo..... I just saw a cute article in our paper yesterday for the kids to do and I'm going to have my grandson all next month so we are going to try the following. Buy a 1 and half gallon clear fish bowl. Mix 2 boxes of berry (blue) jello and place in bowl. Next drain a can of fruit cocktail and dump in the bowl for the rocks etc. Place in frig for 1 hour bring out and take a spoon and push several gummi fish down into the bowl. You now have dessert or a salad for dinner. Hope this helps as the picture is really cute!
