I am looking for a supplier of good quality chocolate that can be used to make truffles, bon bons, ets. Anybody have any ideas besides going to the grocery or Wally World? Thanks! icon_biggrin.gif

Here's a link that was mentioned here a few days ago; I hope others can help, too.

lsawyer - that is a good site. There is a typo in your link though, the address is:

http://www.ambassadorfoods.com/CallebautChocolate.html

I've never ordered chocolate before, so I'm interested also what people have to say.

Do you have a Restaurant Depot in your area? Membership is free and I buy 11-pound blocks of Callebaut there for only $35! My store here in Pittsburgh usually has all four varieties in stock - white, milk, bittersweet and unsweetened. If you have a store in your area, I highly recommend it.

mjw15618- I don't think I have a Restaurant Depot here- do they have a website? Or take orders over the phone for shipping? They sound like they have great prices! Thanks so much!

They have a website, restaurantdepot.com, but I don't believe they do online ordering or shipping. The website has listings for every store in the country, so there may be one near you if not in your actual city. It's obviously aimed at restauranteurs, professional chefs, and other food vendors and you can find some awesome deals on everything from produce to seafood to cake boxes. I love that place! They offer really good coupons, too. I once had one that took $25 off a $100 purchase!

You have to be either a business or a non-profit organization to qualify for membership. The store isn't open to the public. They need a tax ID number and a business name and that's about it! Since I'm the sole "employee" and proprietor of my business, my SSN acts as my tax ID number. I'm classified as a domestic bakery in Pennsylvania and since Pennsylvania doesn't apply sales tax to food, it's kind of a moot point. I claim my bakery earnings under schedule C for the feds, so I don't need the tax ID number for that either. Anyway, if you're near a Restaurant Depot, definitely try to get a membership! It beats Sam's Club any day.

Isn't Wally World where Chevy Chase takes the family for vacation?

I have a good place right here in town. It is aptly named: The Chocolate Store.

Did you mention where you live? That might help us help you.

Find where those Chocolate Fountain People are getting their supplies.

Have you tried Hawaiian Vintage Chocolate? It is pretty good stuff, but they raised the price, so now I mostly buy Callebaut.

LOL leta! I think that is where they went! Have not seen that movie in years!

I'm currently on the border of Mississippi and Memphis- but- about to relocate to a very small college town in Mississippi- I'm trying to put the numbers to possibly opening some type of chocolate shop/cake shop/anything else I can sell to make money! I make several types of bon bons and truffles right now- but want to look into what it would cost if I got the ingredients wholesale vs retail........to see if it is feesable- Any suggestions?
