Don't use piping gel it will not dry. All I use is a little water or egg whites.

I just let a pea size of gumpaste dissolve in a small amount of water and it makes a very good glue.

Gum glue is a mixture of water and bits of gumpaste, about 1/4 tsp gumpaste bits to a tablespoon water. More water is fine, 2 or 3 TB.

You can also use vanilla. But comparing all 3 (water, vanilla and gum glue) I would say gum glue is strongest of all.

Pasterized egg whites will also work.
