I already know what I'm going to charge for the cake but I want to know what you think I should charge for it.
The cake is for an 8th grade graduation and my husband wanted me to give this guy a break on the price, the guy works in the wash bay at the shop my husband works at and he doesn't make much. My husband likes him too which makes a difference, he didn't ask for a discount or anything.
I'm making a tier cake, 6 & 10", with fondant butterflies, flowers and a 3d hat in the school colors. No special fillings. They didn't request any of this special stuff it's just what I want to do, they had asked for a sheet but I told the guy I'd give him a break if he let me do a tier, I figure it takes about as much cake as a 12x18.
My husband wants me to figure out what I would charge so this guy can tell people what it should cost as opposed to what I charged him if they ask. I'm giving it to him for $50 which is $15 under what I charged last time I sold a 12x18.
Part of the break is simply because I want people to see what else I can do, all people seem to think about here are sheets.

Are they double layers? If so, that would probably serve at 40 or so....at least $90 is my guess.

Yes, it's to feed about 40. I was thinking about $80. We live in a rural area but everything is really high around here, cake mix for $1.00 is a great deal, and I have to travel 2 hours to get even basic Wilton stuff.

My price for a cake like that would be 3.00 per serving for a total of $120. My starting price for stacked cakes is $2.50 and since you are making the fondant decorations that pushes it up to $3 per serving.

A cake that serves 35 - 40 and is tiered and coverd in fondant.. 3$ a serving for me.. would make 105 - 120$.. fondant modeling would be priced per item and add on to the price. 50$ is a big bargain. icon_biggrin.gif

Sorry I think I forgot to say it will be iced in buttercream not covered in fondant.

The price I gave above would be for BC frosted with fondant decoration.

Thanks for the input, I was figuring at least $85 myself but wasn't sure if I was crazy or not. icon_lol.gif

I know it's a bargain, I planned it that way.
This morning when my husband talked to him he said I could do what I want if he's getting a break and since he's paying for it if the others didn't like it that was tough. icon_lol.gif It's for his niece.

Well then.. it would be 2$ a serving.. so 70 - 80$ for JUST the cake.. the add on the fondant modeling.. I'd say 90 - 100$
