I modeled this cake after a Bronwen Weber cake in American Cake Decorating Magazine. I made it for Mother's Day. Of Course, my mom loved it, but I just couldn't stand all the flaws and problems I was having with the MMF. I think it was just too soft. Anyway, your honest opinions and any constructive criticism. Also, when you use MMF, is the texture just like that of store bought fondant or softer. I find it is always softer, should I add more sugar?

Thanks.

We are our own worst critics. I think your cake is gorgeous and it looks very difficult.

The cake is perfection! TRuly! icon_biggrin.gif I just used the Rhoda's MMF for the first time this weekend. I loved it, but it did seem a little bit softer. I think when I made it, I wound up adding an additional cup of powdered sugar. It was stiff when I took it out of the saran wrap but got soft after i started working with it.

I agree with everyone else, it is beautiful!!
I do find MMF to be softer and have wondered about adding more powdered sugar as well. Anyone know if this will help?? I haven't done anything this intricate so it hasn't been a problem so far, but I'd still like to know in case I do in the future.

Throwing my hat in....it's a beauty!

I've done a few cakes and hated them! Was near tears and had to walk away. Afer a while I go back and look at them...trying to use my "guest eyes" instead of "cake decorator eyes" and I end up falling in love with it!

I think this cake is great and best of all mom loved it! icon_lol.gif

Thanks for the support everybody. Maybe I won't throw in the cake decorating towel. I airbrushed the cake with super pearl dust mixed with clear alcohol to get it shiny and sparkly.

darcat: I definitely look into Toba Garretts fondant and see how I like to work with that. I don't like the taste of Wilton fondant, but the texture and workability of it is just perfect and it is so nice. I wish I could get MMF to feel that way. Maybe just some more practice.

Thanks again everybody. I was just feeling so tired and ready to give up.
