Ok, I was watching the wedding cake challenge and the lady with the floral cake was just shoving the wire into the cake. As far I have looked their is no FDA approved wire for cakes.
Now I know we have talked about this - wrap the wire in scran wrap or dip in royal icing also you can use floral water tubes (which in said in my cake decorating books)
So, if you were to use the tubes would you get the skinny 4 1/2" long tube (100 for $8.89) or the 3" tubes which are fat (100 for $9)
3" tubes

4 1/2" tubes

So, what do you think. I like the tubes or royal icing.
Honestly, not everything we use can possibly be FDA approved. That's why we just have to take some precautionary measures like wrapping in tape or plastic wrap. And whatever we do is to our own discretion w/ out the guilt. If we worry about everything, then we end up with nothing. ![]()

wow I never knew that...I've been shovin them in my cakes for 3+ years now...ehh why stop a good thing. I wonder if floral tape is cool?...some of the wires or sticks are wraped in that too.
For me dipping in royal icing works. I was just wondering becuase on this board and on others, wire has left a taste in the cake and one some occassions some have found out that the rusted in the cake.
I was just bringing it up, in case anyone else has questions about it. Some of the books I have from the UK use the water tubes. So I was just asking what everyone thinks.
Well I'm not sure if this makes a difference but I dont use just any wire, its usually the floral wire that is white or green, I've never heard of or seen this in any of my cakes so maybe coated floral wire is the key.
