My son is turning 8 in July and wants a camo party. I want to make him a camo cake, but have NO idea where to start, or how I want it to look. If anyone has any ideas to get me started, I would greatly appreciate it.
TIA!

I have one in my photos. The way I did it was one color at a time and just kept changing as I went around the cake. I will try to post it.

Try typing just "camo" in the search because I'll bet a lot of people don't spell it correctly or abbreviate.

Do you have an airbrush?

We got one from Vons for my brother's last birthday, and let me tell you, it wasn't impressive.

I figured that a BETTER way to achieve the look of camo, would be to use an airbrush (if you don't have that, try Wilton's colored sprays), and use a thin coat of green, and other areas with a thicker coat of green, and maybe some light and dark browns, and maybe just a hint of yellow.

Also, what if you did just the border of the cake in camo? You could look at a pic for reference and do a piping gel transfer of the individual shapes, OR lay it under wax paper and pipe it in with buttercream for a frozen buttercream transfer.

I did a camo cake and it didn't turn out like I wanted, I instant messaged someone that had a great cake and they gave me the directions. The only problem was that I used all butter buttercream and you couldn't do the smoothing thing that you need to do. So my advice would be to use all shortening buttercream. Even though it didn't look as great as I wanted it to, my son LOVED it. (If you want me to tell give you the instructions that the person sent me, just PM me)

I have several camo cakes on my website. The cake with the dogtag is the one i use most often. Obviously you would not need the preggo lady or the baby on that page, but this is a link to the search results on my website:

Good Luck! thumbs_up.gif

Thank you for your kind words. A friend in the UK created my website, and he maintains and hosts it for me. I agree, he did a great job! icon_smile.gif

My website is a photo album, nothing more, for my own personal use and so my friends can see what I have done. As far as anyone is concerned, those photos are just there to look at, no prices, no contact except by email, and I never never never take orders by email.

It's all good! thumbs_up.gif

I made a camo cake for a cousin that was tuning six. I airbrushed the camo pattern and put those real army men on there like they were fighting a battle. He loved it and got to play with the little toys.

Good luck!
