I need help I am making a cake that is going to be ford mustang. I have looked thru the pics. The idea I have or would like to attempt is the chrome pony. (attached picture) Now my problem how do I go about making it....FBCT (pretty good at it), fondant (have never used). I would like to have that chrome look & maybe the 2D look to it. Any help as I know you alln have awsome ideas. Just remember I am fairly new to this but willing to try pretty much anything.
TIA
You could make the pony a couple of ways. If you could get a cookie cutter of the pony (don't know if they even make this!) you could make it out of marshmallow fondant (great to work with, great recipe on here)and dust with silver luster dust or you could make it out of royal icing and then dust with silver luster dust. That might be the easiest. I would do it similar to FBCT only with royal icing.
Depending on how many people you need to feed you could make a 1/4,1/2 or full sheet and then cut the poney shape. The easiest way is to take you pic to kinkos and have them blow it up to the size you'd like the cake to be and then have a couple copies of that size. Cut out the poney and lay it ontop of your cake then using a Chef Knife or Pairing knife (depending on the hight) cut around the paper and this will easily give you a poney. To keep your paper cutter in place use toothpicks to hold the paper to the cake.
Then just cover it in fondant and paint it Silver with a luster dust but since this is such a white silver I would start with Super Pear and then add a little Silver to it.
...sorry just noticed that you've never used fondant...uhh practice makes perfect but I decided to still post this as a easy way to cut out a 2-d cake incase you or others may not know.
If you decided to try this good luck.
I would suggest laying parchment paper over the picture, and either use grey colorflow, royal icing, or use it as a guide to shape your fondant. Then dust it with silver lustre dust.
Now I dunno what I am going to do!!! Aghhhhh. I am going to play with some fondant this week. I do need help with the dusts tho...sprinkle or paint on??? (can you tell I am a newbie) How do they adhear.
Thanks for all the suggestions. If fondant doesn't work it with probly be colorflow...Unless someone has a better idea.
Thanx again.
Ok this is what I have come up with. I made first batch of MMF. (By the way it was AWSOME, dunno why I was such a CHICKEN)
I colored it grey and then want to paint it with silver luster dust. I do have a few ??? yet will MMF dry hard? What do I put it on to dry parchment/wax paper? How log till it gets pretty firm or hard? Any help with painting on the silver luster dust (if my order gets here on time)
