Hey ladeebug! I had the cake out from 9:30 to about 3:00 or 4:00 when it was cut. It remained indoors in a relatively cool environment, no ac though. I have to say the filling was fine but it seemed that quite about of the "cream" part was absorbed into the cake. Needless to say it did not impact the taste. I would advise to keep refrigerated for as long as possible or maybe add a bit of extra filling between layers. The WBH BC is so smooth, all you'll need is a spatula to smooth it out. If it is a sculpted or 3D cake the small 3-4" spatulas work really well. HTH, Good Luck!!!! icon_smile.gificon_smile.gificon_smile.gif

Noosie,

Don't feel bad about the red tongues and lips. We just had a birthday party for our grandson and he wanted a dinosaur party, more specifically a T-rex party. icon_rolleyes.gif When all was said and done, we shared our BLACK & GREEN smiles! icon_eek.gificon_surprised.gificon_redface.gificon_lol.gif I'm glad to say that just one brushing took care of the coloring even on my DH's dentures! icon_wink.gif The kids had a great time (& so did we)!!! icon_biggrin.gif

Oh my gosh the cake is awesome!!

I LOVE the buttercream dream recipe though - I'm figuring the bitter taste came from all of the red icing color you had to use. You know what I'm just now thinking? I bet if you made strawberry buttercream (using lorann oils), which already turns the icing pink, that it would be easier to color red - and not taste as bad..... just a thought - I haven't tried it before - and of course if someone doesn't like strawberry, it wouldn't work! Hmmm I'm gonna have to make strawberry buttercream soon - soooo good!

as for the Whimsical Bakehouse buttercream, I wasn't a huge fan. I don't like buttercream that calls for tons and tons of butter - I feel like it doesn't have much of a taste - it just is kinda buttery and slips down your throat before you really get a "taste" of anything.... it just sort of "disappears" on the tongue.... I like to really taste my icing! icon_smile.gif

you might not have to add as much coloring as you think if you make your icing 4-5 days in advance. I always make my dark colors way ahead and let them "cure" in the fridge. Just a thought.
