I've been taking the Wilton class where they teach the fondant rose because when I first took the class they didn't teach it and I wanted to get some more experience using some of the tools before I learn more gumpaste flowers. In the class we cut out a flower and then ruffle the petals with a tool then arrange them around the base... would this same technique work with candy clay? All the tutorials I've seen use the older method of molding each petal individually. Anyone tried to make candy clay roses with the rose cutters?

they can be made with the candy clay, but you need to work fast, and you can't cut more then one petal at a time, cause the candy sets up and will break on you, but can it be done, yest just play with it some and you will get the hang of it.

So do you need to do it one petal at a time or can you use the easy rose cutters that are 5 petals together?

When I make my clay roses I do one petal at a time. I usually cut all the petals out for one row all at once. Then I vein them and attache each one onto the stem. Then I repeat the same process for the remaining rows. They aren't hard to do and I can usually make one in about 10 - 15 minutes.

You can look at my pics to try and get some ideas.
