I'm sure there are people who can give you a better idea, but I would probably use lavender fondant to make little balls, then paint them with pearl dust. Is there a lavender pearl dust? I know I have green pearl, so maybe there's a lavender, too. Maybe you could get some purple luster dust and mix it with some super pearl to lighten it up a bit. I just did that with my Mother's Day cake.

Good luck!

Mix a small amount of purple lustre dust with some pearl dust and put in a Ziplock bag. Get your pearls (either made from a pearl maker or from a round tip) and put in the bag with a dropper full of vodka (or lemon extract.) Then shake shake shake until they are all coated and dump out on a cookie sheet (with sides!) to dry. icon_smile.gif

Depending on how light a color you want, I would make gumpaste or fondant pearls, let them dry solid. Put a small amount of lavender petal dust and and just a bit of super pearl luster dust in a zip lock bag, shake to mix the colors, don't add any liquid. Drop the dried pearls into the bag and shake to cover them. Pour them out of the bag into a wire mesh strainer, lay a piece of computer printer paper under the strainer, shake the pearls around to remove excess color. The dust that has sifted down onto the paper can be poured back into a dust container and used another time. Dusting them dry will give you a more even coating, if you add alcohol you take the chance of some pearls being covered heavier than others, with the dry dust they will be more uniform.

for a matte look, you could also use pastel chalk dust. just "grate" the pastel over a wire mesh strainer.

I make pearls the same way Shirley does. My last batch of dusts came from Cake Central. They are good and are quick to ship!
