Help! I've looked for the color gold to tint my gumpaste and frosting and cannot find it. All I found was the luster dust. How can I tint with luster dust or how can I combine other colors to get gold. Need this for tomorrow. Please, please help icon_cry.gif

to my knowledge there isn't any "gold" paste or such. I do a yellow gumpaste and then paint with gold luster dust mixed with vodka afterwards to get the gold.

That's what I do to get gold too. Sometimes I even use white gumpaste and just paint it with gold luster dust.

When making icing a golden color I use egg yellow with a touch of brown. I then will go over with the gold dust after it drys. If I was at a store bakery I tell the customers that all metalic colors can not be reproduced in icing just the color not the shine.

Americolor makes a "gold" coloring. I bought some from my local cake supply shop for a bride who wanted her cake decor in gold. It's not wedding ring gold .... more in the yellow-gold family. The color number on the bottle I have is #135.

For my Lord of the Rings cake (In my gallery), I started with Wilton's gold but that was too yellowy for me so I added a tiny bit of brown. It matched the gold base pretty well but I then also used gold luster dust over it and it was great.

You could give Midas a ring. He may come touch your cake for you in just the spots to be gold. Oh, if life were that easy.
