hey! i just disscovered luster dust a couple of weeks ago and im in love with it! ha but can you knead luster dust right into the fondant rather then paint it on? im making a cake that looks like a wedding dress and the dress has a champaign colored sash and i was going to just tint the fondant ivory then somehow i wanted to add the luster dust but make it shine a little bit but not be over the top! any ideas???
I had the same question... thank you for posting. I'll have to watch for replies as well ![]()
Kneading it into the fondant doesn't have the 'shimmery' effect that you get if you dust it on top. If you are going for subtle, I would put your fondant on the cake, wait for it to dry some, then dry-dust the luster dust on. The drier the fondant, the less dust will stick, so you will get a more subtle effect.
Here's a tutorial on fondant bows with antique silk luster dust dry-brushed on if it helps!
