Help On Cambo's Cupcake Bouquet - Had Problem
Decorating By Joshsmom Updated 20 May 2007 , 7:20pm by Sunny77
Yesterday I made Cambo's version of the cupcake bouquet (thanks for the instructions Cambo
) and had a couple problems
1) Do you try to NOT have the cupcake top? 2 cupcakes I put on broke right at the top where it meets the cupcake liner ~ it just plopped icing and top to the table
2) then this am I checked on them (for fear they all plopped off) just the icing plopped off the cupcake ~ but cupcake top still in tack ~ fingers crossed. ![]()
Here is the picture of them which I think came out really cute but I feel like they are like fine china and afraid they aren't going to make it to the mom's
Any suggestions to stop this from happening??
I made one yesterday with no problems so far..... i put it in the freezer and will take to mom's today.
I filled my cupcake cups just high enough so that the tops came out even with the top of the cup. You could try this and see if that would keep the top from falling off.
As for just the icing coming off.... I'll keep my fingers crossed too when they thaw out! ![]()
yes Im having the same thing happen to me, its only the ones at the bottom...which is driving me crazy
Well, my bouquets made it to my MIL and husbands Grandma. We met for breakfast and as we walked through everyone oohed and aahed and complimented on how beautiful they were and couldn't believe they were cupcakes. All the waitresses came up to the table and obviously one of them decorates as she drilled me.....what tip did you use, how are the cupcakes staying on...yada yada ~ it annoyed me
but I let it slide. I'm never quick enough with comebacks either, I always think of something after the fact.
Anyway, I think next time I'll just make sure there are no domes on the cupcake and thin the icing just a tad more hopefully that will solve the issues
I posted in another post about this . this may help . I use 5 9oz. plastic cups cut down to about 1/3 the size and stapled together into a circle, so the cupcakes sit in the cups , i then squeeze 1 more cupcake into the center so it ends up being 6 cupcakes altogether. it is very stable . i then place it in a 6 in pot . it fits very nice , I have a picture in my photos. I am going to decorate one the way it is in the tutorial and see how it looks . I think it would be alot fast to decorate.

The same thing is happening to mine too. I think it's because the cupcake is slightly higher( taller) than the paper liner so the weight of the frosting on top just pulls it apart once you stick it on the toothpick. It wasn't happening with the cupcakes that were upright, just the ones that sat sideways. It broke right where the cupcake meets the paper liner just like Joshsmom said. I also had a cupcake completely fall out of the liner while it was in my fridge too. I guess it's all about getting the technique down right and finding a happy medium with the thickness of the frosting and making sure the cupcakes have no dome on them.
Maybe Cambo can enlighten us better.

Ok- about a mile from mom's house, about 3 of the rosettes slid off. I think it was because I had them in the freezer and they slid as they thawed. I slapped them back on before we went into the house, then quickly disassembled it after mom got to look at it. I was thinking of trying some mini-cupcakes instead...... or I really like boyoboy's cup idea.
I had problems too but I was able to salvage them. My problem was at the bottom - the hole from the toothpick got bigger from the weight and then the bottom cupcakes wanted to fall. I ended up putting extra toothpick at the bottom of the cupcake...on the outside of the cupcake liner. You couldn't see them so it wasn't really a big deal. I did get a lot of "wow''s about them
I wonder if you used green cardboard cups..like from a party supply store and cut those down and put the toothpick into the cup and then into the styrofoam..so half would be up to hold the cupcake and half in teh styrofoam. Might be better to use wooden skewers for this. At least then you would have the support from the cup and the green cup would blend in better.
I also wonder if foil liners would hold up better than the paper ones. The "cake" store near me sells green foil cupcake liners.

I liked your bouquets too Joshsmom I just don't know why you were annoyed because you were being questioned. I think you should be flattered. I took a partial cup of coffee into a restaurant where I was meeting a friend. She called just after I'd picked up a much needed Starbucks! Anyway, they would not allow me to have my coffee in their restaurant. Sounds like you not only got a fabulous reaction to your fabulous creation but must have been at a kind restaurant that morning as well! Great cupcakes and I bet your MIL and Gma were very impressed!
