I ate one of my cookies last night, and it sure tasted weird to me. I'm wondering if this has ever happened to anyone else ...

I think I may have packaged cookies before they were completely dry. I was in a rush to meet a deadline. I use a glaze similar to Toba's glaze icing (not royal). These were jumbo 5" cookies. About 24 hours after finishing the glaze, they appeared to be dry (but now I fear they weren't). I heat sealed them in bags. A few days later I pulled one out, and hmmm ... it was very crumbly and seemed way too moist. The flavor was definitely off, too. These cookies are supposed to have a soft crunch to them.

I'm thinking there was too much moisture still left in the cookie, and it had no where to go. Needless to say, I lost a lot of sleep last night over this and probably will again tonight! I have this horrible feeling after charging $5 for an icky cookie (even if they were adorable). I'm sure to have disappointed customers. I'm hoping I can learn from this mistake, however, and not repeat it. Do you think that's what happened to my cookies?

Has something like this ever happened to anyone else?

I will be no help on this one ..... In my opinion, there is no such thing as a cookie that is "too moist"! If a cookie crunches when I bite it, it goes in the trash. Soft cookies only for me! thumbs_up.gif

Are you sure there wasn't something wrong with your ingredients? I can't figure out why the taste would be off.
Your cookies are so beautiful, maybe your customer will deem them too pretty to eat and not eat them!

I have been told that is you wrap cookies in saran wrap or in a zip lock they can taste weird. Never personally had that problem but I always wrap them in wax paper if I am not bagging them.

Maybe the same thing could be said for the baggies.

mitsel8 - too funny ... I was hoping the same at one point in time!!

mahalkita - I agree, plastic can give off funky smells which can be picked up by your cookies. I used to order my bags from papermart.com all of the time, but I've gotten two bad batches, and this most recent one really stunk, so I'm going elsewhere for bags (Ck Products - wholesale). I was glad to hear your comment though, because sometimes I think maybe my nose is just too sensitive, but I figure if the packaging smells, then it will get absorbed into my cookies, too.

Thanks for your help everyone.
