How Do I Put Edible Pictures On A Cake?
Decorating By Totally-Frosted Updated 13 May 2007 , 4:30am by CarolAnn
Hi,
This will be my first cake that I want to put a picture on. I am making a cake for my cousins graduation on May 19th and I would like to put her baby picture on it with a quote saying she is all grown up now! My only problem is how can I put the picture on the cake? I have seen cakes like this before. All recommendation are welcome!!!
Thanks!
Veronica
most cake decorating stores carry and make edible image. Just bring them the picture you want and they will print it. You just lay it on the cake over your buttercream and put a border around it.

Does a place like Walmart or Sams Club do something like this? I think this would be a good option for me right now so I can have time to look around and decide on something for me. Thanks for all your help everyone!

I get my edible images at my local grocery store. Just bring them a photo and they will make it for you while you wait.
I've also heard that Super Walmart/Target will do it too.
Our Wal Mart will put a photo on an icing sheet for $4-$5. They'll scan your pic and print it. Trim the icing sheet (if necessary) to the size you want for your cake and then just lay it on your cake and smoothe it out. Then add your border to hide the edge and wa-la. You don't want to wait till your icing has crusted or it won't meld to the surface like you need it to. That happened to me last time I did one and it looked nice but not smoothe as I wanted it to be. Good luck.

I had this happen too Carolann. I now keep a little spray bottle that I put a bit of water in and spray my cake where my edible image will go. Then place the pic down. I have my own printer and inks now, but before that, I got Wal-mart to do one for me. Targe wouldn't.
This must be a different type of image paper. The kind I bought from Koykake has a backing on it. You put the image in the freezer for just a few seconds, peel the backing off and lay the image on an iced cake.
bearcreek350 and Shirley,
It was the frosting sheets like I got from KopyKake. I just let my icing get too dry before adding the image. It was the wee hours of the morning and I knew I could mist it and do the image but I told my dh "no way" was I doing that as tired as I was. I could imagine overdoing it and wrecking something.
I have a dedicated printer too but the head was clogged so I had to get it made elsewhere this time. Wal Mart's printer was making big blue blobs alone the edge of the frosting sheet so I went to the grocery store accross the street. I had to look away from their display wedding cakes to keep from laughing out loud, but they came thru with my image.
