Is there a brand you like or have used and don't like? Are there features I should look for?

THIS is like my favorite-I hate all the others, but I'm sure there are a lot of other opinions!
Wow I was just given one of those old ones- still in the box - never opened, and I thought-great what am I suposed to do with this thing. Now I log on to CC and realize I need recipes!!! ![]()
It's funny you all like the old style because my mom who used an old one for years got one of the cheaper new ones, with the trigger you pull, and she loves it. My father found her an old one at a rummage and bought it telling her that she could give the new one to my sister. She said she was going to make dough up one day and make him try both. ![]()
I have one from The Pampered Chef and...I HATE IT!! It never works properly and none of my cookies ever turn out right...(and I'm a rep...LOL)
I too have an old one that you crank...my grandma gave it to me last year for christmas....she can't use it anymore due to arthritis...so I have been dubbed the cookie press girl at Christmas. I hate the trigger ones...I feel like I am in more control of the dough with the older one. I also don't like the plastic ones....they break super easy. Go with vintage ![]()
I have only used the ones with the triggers. I have the pampered chef one and I really don't like it. However my mom has one with a trigger that I do like I think the brand is ataco or something like that. I have never seen one of the crank ones before, sounds like most of the people on here like the old ones, I may have to buy one!
I too have the Pampered chef one (am a rep also) and it only works good with a few of the disks. I have used a battery opperated one, wouldn't suggest it. I prefer ones that you can control the pressure. One tip though, it will never work right.

I have an older wilton one. And a recipe. I use my moms old Betty Crocker cook book. It has almond flavoring in it. Love them. Now I gues I need to get it out and cook some cookies for our soldiers.
Mine is a Kuhn Rikon made in Switzerland, but bought at Marshalls some years ago. It's excellent, the little cookies are always perfectly shaped, and the disc that makes cookies in the shape of a flour is my favorite.
Most of the time, when I go to the bank, I bake them, and take some small cellophane bags, full of cookies to the girls who help me with my account. They just love it!!!
I have a bunch of friends there!!!
My favorite recipe is one from Wilton.
Classic Spritz Cookies
3 sticks of butter (1- 1/2 cups)
1 cup granulated sugar
1 egg
2 TBS milk
1 tsp vanilla
1/2 tsp almond extract
3 1/2 cups alll-purpose flour
1 tsp baking powder
Preheat oven to 350 F. Cream butter and sugar. Add egg, milk, vanilla, and almond extract. Beat well. Stir together flour and baking powder; gradually add to the creamed mixture, mixing to make a smooth dough. DO NOT CHILL. Place cookie dough into your cookie press and press cookies onto UNGREASED cookie sheet. Bake 10-12 minutes or until lightly browned around edges. Remove cookies from sheet; cool on rack.
Delicious with coffee!!!
Thanks for all your responses. My mom has the old crank type and I bought one with a rachet (sp?) type trigger thing and I hate it. It never cuts the dough off right. I guess I'm off to Ebay!
Okay, I think maybe I am stupid (and I am SURE my teenager would agree!)...
Every single time I have tried to make spritz cookies (I have an older trigger gun...I think maybe my kids have been using it so it is either with the bathtub toys or in the toybox...or maybe the sandbox...but I digress)...EVERY TIME I try to make these cookies, I do my one click, and the dough NEVER EVER sticks to the pan. I can never get it to drop off the gun. What the HECK am I doing wrong? (My old gun was a hand-me-down, so I don't have an instruction book)
I have a battery powered one and I love it. I know how many seconds to hold the trigger before letting go to get perfect cookies. I always look at the thrift store for different disks. I just got the ones from the sesame street themed one. I can make Grover, Big Bird, Elmo, 1, 2, 3, & A, B, C. From another set I have a couple different ones from my original one. I always make spritz cookies for the neighbors for christmas. Lots of cookies in miminmal amount of time.
I got one last year from Williams-Sonoma and haven't used it yet. Now I have an excuse to! ![]()

This is exactly what happens to me with the trigger type.
And you can't get it off the press without messing up the shape of the cookie. I thought it would be really time efficient, but no such luck. I think they should have stuck to the original hand crank press that actually worked right!

I don't know if this will help, but I have to hold mine up against the pan. I have noticed if i'm not right on the pan, it doesn't stick to the pan. I've had mine for probably 8-10 years (sorry I can't remember exactly). I bought it off of QVC and I like it! I hope this helps!
