I have to make a wedding cake that has quite a few scrolls on it. Is there any thing I can do to make them stronger so they don't break when I go to put them on the cake? I know to make them out of royal icing and let them sit at least a week. Anything else ???
I haven't started to make them yet, but I have made some royal icing snowflakes and had a terrible time with breakage !
Thanks !!!

Spray a very thin layer of vegetable spray on the surface (foil?), then lightly wipe it. This makes it easier to release without breaking. Also, you can pipe the scrolls directly on the cake with BC or royal.

I would think this would be the way to go. Save yourself the trouble of worrying about the breakage and just pipe them directly onto the cake.

Maybe sedinga wants the scrolls standing up.

I would use fondant....my lighthouse cake is full of pre-made scrolls that I let dry for a couple of days....not one broken...also my mosaics and swirls cake scrolls are fondant...

Can you tell I love scrolls?

Are either of those the type of scroll you are talking about?
